Decluttered: Now What?
New Year, fresh start! With the start of the new year, you may be feeling like it is about time to declutter your home and your belongings to give yourself that fresh start feeling. Decluttering your home can help you reach that feeling and new year’s resolution if that is one that you have set for yourself at the beginning of the year. When you spend time decluttering the space in your home, you might find yourself discovering items you haven’t used or worn in ages, doubles of items, or items you have no use for at all. What do you do with them? Here are some ideas on what you can do with all of those belongings.
Friends and Family
Spread some love this time of year to your friends and family. Have you ever experienced a friend or family member point out something in your home that you have no use for anymore and they loved? Think about all the items and belongings that you own that you wouldn’t mind giving away to clear up some space in your home that no longer brings you joy. Take some time to go through your closet, and maybe you have one friend in mind that would look amazing in those jeans that no longer fit you or you have not worn in ages! This is a great exercise to do for yourself to help clear a few belongings in your home you no longer need or use.
Sell Online
Are you planning on moving and looking for some extra money? Whether that is the case or you are just looking to get rid of your belongings that are in excellent or mint condition, take them online! It can be a great way to share photos and details about your furniture pieces, clothes, etc. You can attract buyers who may be interested in purchasing some of your belongings. Remember, your junk may be someone else’s treasure!
Donate
Donating old clothes that no longer fit, electronics that no longer bring you joy, cooking utensils that you have too many of, or toys that your children have outgrown can be useful to someone else especially during these difficult times. There are plenty of places where you can donate your belongings, whether that be at your local Value Village or Salvation Army. You could also donate books at your local school or public library.
Self-storage
Sometimes it can be hard to let go of some of your belongings, especially the ones that have a lot of sentimental value to you. These could be your music records, photo albums, baby clothes, or family heirlooms. The main benefit of investing in self-storage is that you can keep these belongings safely and securely without having to worry about them taking up extra space in your home. You can always visit and take them out of storage when you need them.
