How to Organize Your Linen Closet

Various household items such as pillows and quilts standing in the white cupboard in the laundry room.

When was the last time you went through your linen closet, decluttered it, or even organized it? If you have to think about it for too long then it may be time to get the process started! The question we want to help you answer is how to get started on organizing your linen closet. At XYZ Storage, we believe in helping you with all of your organizational and storage needs when it comes to your self-storage unit and even in your home as well! Here are some tips to help you get started:

A linen closet is a closet in your home that can be used to store a variety of essential items that you may use on a daily basis. Here is a list of some of the items you might find in your linen closet or some that you could include:

  • Any sheets including bedsheets and pillowcases
  • Comforters and blankets
  • Bathroom supplies
  • Towels including hand towels, face cloths, and bath towels
  • Laundry basket(s)

Emptying Out Your Closet

Emptying out your closet and starting fresh may be the way to go. When you empty out your closet and lay everything out it gives you a much better sense of what you have, what you need, and what you no longer need. If your linen closet is an absolute mess or needs a lot of work – go ahead and dump everything out which will help prepare you for decluttering your belongings.

Decluttering

Decluttering is the process of sorting through your belongings and deciding which items you wish to keep, sell, donate, store or throw out. When it comes to your linen closet you’ll likely get rid of any items you either no longer use, have too many of, or anything that is old/expired. For example, perhaps you have cleaning products that have expired and need to get rid of or maybe you have ratty towels that you have kept over the years that look like their time is up.

Make Use Of Baskets/Bins

Baskets and bins are great options to keep your linens organized whether it be to help sort the variety of towels you have or keep your linens organized by colour. It is up to you how you want to organize your closet in a way that makes the most sense to you.
