How to Get Ready for the Holiday Season
It is already November, which means the holidays are just around the corner. Holidays are a time filled with joy, laughs, and spending time with loved ones. It also tends to come with the stress of cleaning and hosting dinner guests (sometimes overnight ones). Due to the implications of COVID-19, the holidays will likely lack the physical aspect of hosting guests and having to keep your entryway put together when guests enter your home. This year you will likely be hosting your holiday parties over video-chat. However, that does not mean you have to forgo preparing your home for the holiday season. Here are a few ways you and your family could prepare for the holiday season to come.
Setting Up Your Décor and Seasonal Scents
Amidst the global pandemic, it can be tough to get yourself excited about anything. Here is something that may lift your spirits – setting up your holiday décor! You can go ahead and set up your lights on your porch, blow up your snowman to put in your front lawn, and hang your wreath. The inside of your house can also be decorated as much or as little as you want. You can set up your Christmas tree, décor on the fireplace, beautiful dinnerware and glassware, as well as lighting up your holiday scented candles. Candles are a great way to help yourself relax and to get yourself in the holiday spirits.
Making Room for New Gifts
One of the highlights of the holiday seasons is the joy of gift giving. Thankfully gifts can still be given and received by friends and family even despite COVID-19. If gift giving is a huge tradition in your home and especially if you have children sooner or later, you may have plenty of toys filling up your home. Even if you do not plan on deep cleaning your home for the holiday season, you may plan on doing so now to make room for all of the wonderful gifts you and your family may be getting this holiday season.
Taking Time for Yourself
This year has been a whirlwind to say the least and with stress levels at an all-time high for many of us it is important to remember to take breaks. With everything going on around the world and the holiday season, your mental health is more important now than ever. Please take some time for yourself whether it is having a cup of tea and relaxing on the couch watching Netflix, having a mini spa day for yourself, or doing some morning yoga.
Tidying Up Your Living Space
With it being almost the end of the year, have you thought about doing some end of the year cleaning? Despite the lack of guests this year, it may still be worthwhile to tidy up your living space whether that be organizing your kitchen for all of the cooking you will be doing for your family or to simply get your house in order before the new year. Remember, to organize all of your belongings the way it works best for you and your lifestyle. If you have decided to do some decluttering for the new year in addition to the holiday season, then good for you! During this process, you may find it difficult to decide what items you want to keep, get rid of, or store. Here are a few questions that you could ask yourself that may come in handy:
- How often do I use or wear this item?
- Does it serve a meaningful purpose or use in my life?
- Can this item be replaced by something I already have? Or do I already have a similar item that has a similar use?
This is a good start to beginning a more minimalist lifestyle if that is something that interests you. It can also help you get a fresh start to the new year being that this year was extremely overwhelming and stressful for a lot of us one way or another.
Renting a Self-Storage Unit
It can be a tough one – deciding whether you want to keep or throw away one of your belongings as you clean and organize your home. Remember, it does not have to be one or the other as you can always consider renting a self-storage unit. A self-storage unit can help you temporarily store all your belongings that you do not have the space for at home. At XYZ Storage, that is exactly what we do! We help you make space for the big things happening in your life such as the holiday season. We would be more than happy to help you pick through our customizable storage solutions at one of our self-storage facilities.
