5 Ways to Stay Productive

There are only a few months left of 2020 and some of the goals that you have set for yourself at the beginning of the year might have been overseen. It is important during these unprecedented times to continue to focus on your well-being and mental health. For some of you, you may be struggling with staying productive over the last several months of social distancing and working from home. Here are five tips that may help to keep your spirits up and to hopefully help you stay productive throughout the days and weeks to come:

1. Making a Schedule

Making a schedule for yourself before you get your day started can help you increase productivity. For example, when you have all your meetings scheduled and laid out in a calendar this makes it a whole lot easier to figure out when you have the free time to commit to other obligations or tasks that you need to finish.

2. Goal Setting

Goals are what can help motivate you on a day to day basis. Try setting small goals for yourself throughout the week or the upcoming weeks ahead. These goals could include making dinner everyday and only ordering take-out on Fridays or waking up an hour earlier to go for a run before jumping on your computer to start your work day.

3. Plenty of Breaks

Yes, the breaks are great! You may think that taking too many breaks throughout the day can be counterproductive, however, if you work yourself too hard you could experience burnout. It is important to take breaks in between completing major tasks or projects. For example, if you are studying for a midterm or an exam it may be a good idea to take a study break for 5 minutes every 30 minutes or so. This can help your brain recharge before studying the next chapter. The same goes for all of you working from home. All those zoom meetings can be exhausting and it is important to take a break when you need it!

4. Having a Morning Routine

There are many of us out there that strive on routine and enjoy following a set schedule every day or every week. Having a morning routine can help you stay productive throughout the day. For example, waking up at the same time every morning so that you can sit and enjoy your breakfast or coffee before getting ready to tackle the rest of your day. This will help set the tone for the day ahead!

5. Decluttering Your Physical Space and Mind

When working from home it may be a good idea to declutter your surroundings to improve your ability to focus on the task at hand. Decluttering your physical space can help improve your mental health as well. Trust us, it is worth spending the time to organize and clean your physical space!
