We are getting to the time after the holidays where you might want to start thinking about packing and storing away your holiday decorations. If only we could keep our holiday decorations up all year long! Unfortunately, for most of us, that is simply not the case, so we are going to share with you our tips and tricks for storing your holiday decorations at home or elsewhere.

Invest in Packing Supplies

With the holidays over, the last thing you want to do is more work. However, it may be worth it to take the time to invest in proper packing supplies to make unpacking your holiday decorations go much more smoothly. Before you get started, here is a list of some of the packing supplies you can purchase if you do not have them already:

  •   Cardboard boxes
  •   Storage containers
  •   Shrink wrap – for your Christmas tree
  •   Bubble wrap – for your fragile decorations

Spend Some Time Decluttering

Decluttering is a practice that could help you stay organized and keep the items in your home at a minimum. Therefore, it can be applied to your holiday decorations as well. You may not realize it, but your holiday decorations stack up over time. This goes for any holiday or celebratory decorations you may have for birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Take a few moments and think about which items you would like to keep and use again. If not, then consider selling, donating, or throwing it away.

Packing Away Your Decorations

Christmas Tree

If you kept the box your Christmas tree came in, then lucky for you! However, if you happen to have thrown out the box you can shrink wrap your tree and make it as straight as possible for easy storage in your home. No space left in your home to store it? You can look into renting a storage unit at a self-storage facility to store your Christmas tree along with some of your other belongings that you lack the space for.

Fragile Décor Items

Bubble wrap will be your absolute best friend! Carefully wrap your ornaments or other decorations that you have displayed out for the holidays that are considered fragile. Once you have done so you can carefully place them in a cardboard box or storage container to be put away until the next holiday season.

Storing Your Holiday Decorations

You can store your holiday decorations neatly packed away in your garage, basement, or extra storage closet. However, if you have no space left in your home then self-storage is the way to go! With everyone staying at home due to the lockdown restrictions in place for Toronto, throughout the GTA, and the rest of Ontario your home may feel more crowded than usual. You might want to decide to opt out from storing your seasonal belongings at home. This goes for your holiday decorations, seasonal clothing items, as well as any seasonal equipment.
